Trish Ehman Featured on Calgary’s Legacy Makers, Now Streaming Free on Yes TV
There’s something amazing about watching someone step into exactly what they were meant to do.
That’s the feeling you’re left with after watching Trish Ehman’s recent feature on Calgary’s Legacy Makers, now streaming free on Yes TV. In the 20-minute segment, host Jacqueline Clements sits down with Trish to explore her 12-year career in hearing healthcare, and the mobile clinic model that’s helping reach people who might otherwise go without care entirely.
At the centre of the spotlight is Ears To You: a fully functioning hearing clinic on wheels. Equipped with a sound booth, diagnostic equipment, and everything you’d expect from a traditional clinic, the difference is simple: instead of patients coming to the clinic, the clinic comes to them.
When Jacqueline asked how patients have responded to the mobile concept, Trish didn’t hesitate.
“We’ve found a niche that a lot of people didn’t know there was even an option for,” she said. “Part of why I started this was because I saw the issue where people weren’t able to get access to the care they need. We come to them and make it easy.”
It’s easy to underestimate how meaningful that is. Hearing care isn’t a one-time appointment, it’s a relationship. It requires follow-up, adjustments, education, and trust. And for many patients, barriers like mobility, transportation, or even the mental load of navigating appointments can stand in the way.
The mobile model removes those barriers entirely.
Jacqueline shared she invited Trish to her home to understand firsthand what clients experience.
“It was so seamless,” she shared. “You were amazing, gentle, patient, funny, and professional. It was such a great experience for me, personally, and I just think people are going to love this idea.”
What became clear throughout the interview is that mobility isn’t just about convenience, it’s about context.
In a traditional clinic, hearing is tested in silence. But hearing loss doesn’t live in silence, it lives in kitchens, in conversations, and even in coffee shops. Trish shared the story of meeting a patient at a café to adjust their hearing aids in real time, surrounded by the exact noise that had been frustrating them.
“This is the biggest concern for most people,” she explained. “Hearing in noisy environments and hearing when there is a lot going on.”
It’s this ability to meet patients in their real environments that allows Trish to deliver care differently.
One of the most memorable moments in the segment came when she shared the story of a woman in her 90s who believed she had suddenly lost her hearing following a car accident. But the reality was more nuanced. She had lost much of her vision, and without it, her brain could no longer compensate for hearing loss by reading lips and facial expressions. When Trish later visited her in the hospital, the appointment wasn’t about technology. It was about helping her understand what was happening, and giving her the confidence to advocate for herself.
It’s a good reminder that hearing care isn’t just about helping people hear better. It’s about helping them stay connected to their families, their independence, and their lives.
The interview also follows Trish’s path into ownership. After years in traditional clinics, she began thinking seriously about how hearing care could be delivered differently. That search eventually led her to Ears To You. She reached out to founder Jeff Campbell to learn more, joined the team, and later became the company’s first franchisee.
She never describes herself as an entrepreneur. In fact, when Jacqueline asked what she hoped people would see when they looked at her journey, Trish said simply:
“I’m just a normal person.”
Jacqueline paused, smiled, and replied, “You’re not normal.”
It was a genuine moment, and an accurate one. Because what Trish has built didn’t come from a business background. It came from doing the work, seeing the gaps, and being willing to step into something new.
