Looking sleeker than ever and sounding good too
But that’s just you. Now, let’s talk about hearing aids.
Perfect fit. Fuller life.
Always custom-made — to fit you just right. Three types of hearing aids are worn in the canal:
- In the canal (ITC): With a slightly bigger profile, these are the easiest to insert, remove, and clean. They also boast a slightly longer battery life compared to other in-ear models.
- Completely in the canal (CIC): Even more discreet than ITCs, this model sits deeper in the canal. You may still get one manual control button to adjust the level of amplification.
- Invisible in the canal (IIC): As close to invisible as you can get. There’s no room for volume wheels or program buttons here, but the sound adapts automatically to most environments.

FAQ
In a sense, yes. Most hearing aid styles sit in the canal to amplify sounds right into your ear. Behind the ear (BTE) models rest behind the outer ear, but transmit sound into a small receiver inside the ear. Some wearers find this more comfortable. BTE hearing aids are also bigger, offering more powerful amplification and longer battery life.
Some wearers consider ITC hearing aids to be better because they’re one of the most discreet styles and don’t get in the way of glasses. ITC styles are also less likely to pick up wind noise since they’re sheltered inside the ear canal.
However, people with limited dexterity may prefer BTE hearing aids over CIC or IIC hearing aids as they’re slightly bigger and easier to handle. Overall, BTE hearing aids are better for profound hearing loss and are more likely to come with rechargeable batteries.
Yes, depending on your degree of hearing loss. ITC hearing aids are best for mild to moderate hearing loss. If you have severe hearing loss, you may require another more powerful style, such as BTE. Similarly, ITCs may not work for you if you have small ear canals or tend towards earwax build-up.
The best way to choose a hearing aid type is with guidance from an audiologist. When you book a hearing assessment, a specialist will talk you through your specific type of hearing loss and the solutions available to you. They’ll be able to make a recommendation based on your needs, lifestyle, and preferences. With Ears To You, our hearing tests are completely professional. We’ll also come to your door in our mobile hearing clinic, so we can run a full diagnostic assessment whenever suits you best.
